Erin Reifsteck, Ph.D.
Dr. Erin Reifsteck is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She received her Ph.D. and M.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport and Exercise Psychology. She also earned her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience from Saint Francis University (Pennsylvania) where she played Division I field hockey and was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and a Northeast Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. Prior to joining the UNCG faculty, Reifsteck completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the Institute to Promote Athlete Health and Wellness at UNCG and received a health coach certificate through UNCG’s Department of Public Health Education. The goal of her research is to promote lifelong physical activity and health among student-athletes. She has served as principal investigator for two NCAA-funded research projects (2015, 2016) focused on the Moving On! program, which prepares student-athletes to make healthy transitions to life after college sports. Reifsteck is a certified taekwondo instructor, and she currently serves on the Editorial Board for the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal.
DeAnne Brooks, Ed.D.
Dr. DeAnne Davis Brooks is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiolgoy at UNCG. She holds degrees in Kinesiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology, and Exercise and Sport Science, a post-baccalaureate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, and is a Certified Exercise Physiologist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and yoga instructor. For twenty years, Brooks has coached track and field at the youth and collegiate levels. She is also a former Division I collegiate All-American track and field athlete and draws upon that experience in her work to promote health-related physical activity in former collegiate and professional athletes. She has delivered lectures and workshops to student-athletes, coaches, and athletics administrators on the topic of transitioning from competitive athletics to lifelong physical activity and co-developed the Moving On! program to help athletes make healthy transitions to life after sports.
Lenka H. Shriver, Ph.D.
Dr. Lenka Shriver is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition at UNCG. She is originally from the Czech Republic. Lenka represented the Czech Junior National Tennis Team before moving to the U.S. She competed in women’s tennis at the NCAA Division I level between 1997 and 2001. She earned a doctoral degree in Nutritional Sciences and served as a faculty member in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Oklahoma State University between 2006 and 2013 before moving to North Carolina in 2013. Her work in the area of sports nutrition is primarily focused on examining dietary intake, eating habits/attitudes, and body composition changes among high school and college athletes. Over the last 10 years, she has coordinated and delivered nutrition education presentations and workshops to a variety of collegiate, high school, and amateur athletic teams. Dr. Shriver’s goal in research and practice is to help individuals optimize diet quality and promote positive body image while reducing unhealthy eating behaviors among former and current athletes. Her goals and passion for healthy eating are reflected in the nutrition content of the Moving On! program, which she helped develop as part of the NCAA Innovations in Research and Practice (2016) grant-funded project.
